The Breakfast Dads
And the impact on this youth can be devastating.
It has been calculated, that 85% of young people in prison grew up in a fatherless home.
A glaring statistic of just how important, fathers are to kids.
Acknowledging a shortage of fathers for their annual ‘Breakfast with Dad’s’ event, the ‘Dr. Billy Earle Dade Middle School’ in Dallas, Texas, needed 50 more volunteer men, to participate.
So, they posted the request on Facebook and something quite surprising happened.
Come Breakfast Day, over 600 gentlemen showed up from all backgrounds, religions, and races.
The kids, administrators, teachers and dads, got to work. They rearranged the room, ordered more food, and got down to business.
They ate breakfast, learned about each other and many made long-term connections.
After the meal the events began.
Stories were shared, music was played and there was even an exercise in which the Dads taught the boys how to tie a necktie.
In this extraordinary outpouring of support, 600 men showed up to pay it forward.
Acting as fathers and mentors, they came together to offer all that they could, … leaving a positive and lasting impression on the community and the kids who really needed them.
