One Million Gardens

Over 20 million people in the U.S. live in “food deserts,” typically urban areas with little or no access to fresh food.

The COVID-19 pandemic shined a spotlight on the problem, rattling food supply chains and exacerbating food insecurity.

It also sparked a renewed interest in gardening.

The Million Gardens Movement is a grassroots campaign to create a more sustainable food system for everyone.

They want to inspire a happier and healthier world by educating and supporting millions of new gardeners.

The movement invites growers to sign up for a free garden kits that can be grown indoors or outdoors. Kits come complete with instructions and access to online lessons, and a customized growing plan of culturally relevant foods.

Users can also share the love, with a $15 donation that provides a family in need with a Little Green Garden—a compact garden kit ideal for people with limited funds, space, or knowledge.

From homes to schools to entire communities, the Million Gardens Movement hopes to grow their efforts—literally— across America, and into Canada and Mexico, and then world-wide, encouraging a greener and more nutritious future for everyone.
